ARTIST GALLERY - ROWENA LLOYD-JONES

Is an emerging artist who lives and works in Newcastle and on the Central Coast of NSW. As a young woman, the art school drop-out travelled the world for many years and hitch-hiked around Australia before settling into a commune in Sydney to complete an arts degree at Sydney University.
Her specific style explores surfaces and values inherent in mediums. The work aims to tell a story via representational depictions and more abstract forms.
In her teens Rowena attended the National Art School. Now as a person in her mid 50’s she’s back to finish something she began all those years ago. Rowena has now completed her Advanced Diploma of Visual arts at Newcastle Art School and will go on to do the degree program. ‘‘I’m trying to understand materials and push myself into them, to make something out of them. I’m driven by light, liveliness and movement.”
In 2023 Rowena received an award for excellence in mixed media and completed an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts. In 2022 Rowena’s painting received a highly commended award in the Carol Duval Memorial Award. She participated in an artist residency at Bimblebox in QLD, where she worked collaboratively with fellow artist, Syann Williams. Her works have been hung at the Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie and she has participated in a number of group exhibitions. This year Rowena was on a residency in Laos exploring Sa paper, hand made locally from Mulberry bark, banana & elephant dung.
